Proverbs 3:5-6 ‘Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all they ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct they path.’
I remember being called into my boss’s office after 15 years of service to the same company and being told that my position was being eliminated because of a company buyout. I was offered a position with the new merging company in a state across the country. A state I had grown up in, but hadn’t lived in for 30 years.
Did I try to figure it out on my own?? Yes.. unsuccessfully. You see, I was leaning on my own understanding of the situation. From my limited human view, my entire world was collapsing. I had no idea what was next. So I prayed… and I prayed a LOT. Something I admittedly hadn’t done for many years. I prayed for guidance. I prayed for direction. I had a family to care for and I had NO idea how I was going to do that.
After looking for a job in my current city and finding nothing, I was on the phone with a friend telling her that I decided to stay put where I was and continue to look for a job. The second I hung up that call, my phone rang. It was my former boss. She told me that I needed to take that job across the country, and what a great opportunity it was. She offered to put a new roof on our current home so we could sell it. She financed the entire move and even loaned us the cash to buy our new house outright so we would have somewhere to land in Texas. God heard my prayers and He answered… big.
But here comes the next part of that verse, ‘In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path’. God was giving me one big direction to follow and all I needed to do was follow it. So John and I did just that. We took a BIG leap of faith and followed God’s direction We took my boss up on her offer and moved across the country to the state where we both grew up. And when I tell you He has blessed us in so many ways since being here, it’s an understatement. Have we had difficulties? Absolutely. But God doesn’t promise us an easy carefree life does He? He not only led us to Texas, He blessed us with a beautiful home, gave us each great jobs and surrounded us with some wonderful friends.
He also led us to a church and a church family that has been the biggest blessing. Yes, in my own understanding the world as I knew it was ending. But, when I leaned on God and trusted Him, it turned out far better than I could have imagined. His plan is always better.
I don’t know what my future holds, but my God does… and as long as I stay focused on Him, I know He will direct my path.
